VISUAL DISPATCH, VOLUME 12:

Ode to New York Fashion Week SS25 Ready-to-Wear

New York Fashion Week—an exhilarating spectacle that never fails to ignite my passion for style! It’s not merely about the glitzy soirées or star-studded encounters; it’s a celebration of the unyielding dedication from the unsung heroes—the PR girls, writers, stylists, and production guru’s who breathe life into each collection.

Every show is a masterfully orchestrated performance, a tapestry woven from months of meticulous planning, relentless pitching, and casting. Every seat label, every intricately designed invitation is a conversation starter, a spark of anticipation before the lights dim and the magic begins. And when those models stride down the runway, adorned in the season’s most innovative designs, it’s sheer euphoria. The synergy of music, lighting, and stunning garments creates an ephemeral moment of beauty that is simply unparalleled.

Let’s be real: if fashion isn’t your language and the artistry of silhouette and textile eludes you, it might be time to reconsider your presence at both the parties and shows

This season, I had the privilege of immersing myself in an array of unforgettable collections. From the edgy cuts of LUAR to the denim-fringe pushing aesthetics of Who Decides War, each presentation was a testament to the vision and artistry that define our industry. Palomo Spain brought a touch of whimsy and romance, while OliviaSade captivated with a bold, fresh perspective. I capped off the week at a cozy friends-and-family gathering at R13, a perfect blend of camaraderie and creativity.

Here’s my inside look at everything we saw at New York Fashion Week:

WHO DECIDES WAR

Who Decides War, co-founded by visionaries Tela D’Amore and Ev Bravado, has once again captivated the fashion scene with their latest collection—my favorite yet. Celebrating their 10th collection, the brand solidifies its identity with distressed denim, oversized yet form fitting garments, and an iconic stained glass motif reminiscent of the windows of a Catholic Church.

Entering the Hall des Lumières, Cash Cobain’s beats echoed through the space, bringing to mind my friend and stylist Xavier Means, who originally pitched for a fuller collaboration with the rapper. The dynamic score, featuring Cobain and talented students from the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts, who set the vibes for the entire show.

The collection showcased deconstructed materials—cotton, linen, denim, leather, and lace—recontextualized through the lens of Black Americana. By producing in-house rather than outsourcing, the brand challenges the notion that streetwear can’t be luxurious, proving that opulence can indeed thrive in this realm of fashion.

I gasped at the bomber jackets created in collaboration with Pelle Pelle, their intricate, logo-adorned patterns catching my eye. A tantalizing hint of an upcoming partnership with Jordan Brand promised even more exciting developments. As I made my way backstage, I spotted Kerstina Renee, your favorite creative and content manager—and a fellow Instagram follower I’d been wanting to connect with—busy organizing the bustling crowd.

Between the bombers and the music, the brand captured the very essence of New York City, and for that, we should be forever grateful.

Palomo Spain

Set against the grand backdrop of the Church of the Divine Paternity, Palomo’s collection ‘All of Heaven’s Parties’ was a stunning tribute to maximalism. Layers of beading over sequins, feathers entwined with fringe, and bold, voluminous silhouettes reigned supreme. I was welcomed by the Gia Kuan team, who are always sweet, driven, and impeccably organized.

Among the highlights of the collection was my favorite look: an all-white two-piece ensemble that radiates elegance and movement. The trousers, adorned with shimmering silver fringe, cascade with every step, creating a captivating swish. Complementing this, the matching halter top features a striking circular design, perfectly harmonizing the pieces with a refined yet bold aesthetic.

From sparkling micro-shorts to oversized sequined trousers, each piece pushed the envelope of traditional menswear with a dramatic flair. Vibrant ostrich-feathered wigs and Swarovski crystals added a lavish touch, while subtle Jazz Age references, like piano-shawl fringe and satin detailing, brought an old-world elegance to the modern, gender-fluid designs.

OLIVIASADE

Founded in 2020, Oliviasade is making waves in the fashion world with its debut runway show, titled “R You Coming Home.” The show features a groundbreaking unisex collection that challenges traditional norms. Known for pieces like the iconic “Ode to Warhol Fck BB” tee, Oliviasade infuses its designs with influences from pop culture and community, revitalizing both seasoned and emerging generations with a fresh aesthetic.

The collection features an array of striking garments made from luxe cotton, showcasing logo-mania prints that include bold “CENSORED” motifs and playful two-piece sets. Patriotic American flags and edgy camo patterns weave seamlessly throughout the lineup, while daring bodysuits accentuate the form with a modern flair.

Standout pieces, like the clever “I Love NY” shirts—where “NY” is crossed out to read “I Love Oliviasade”—embody the brand’s spirit of individuality. Produced by Maya Avery and supported by sponsors Youthforia, Converse, Ripple Co, and Lola Camera, Oliviasade transcends the traditional fashion brand, capturing the true essence of underground artistry in NYC.

From graffiti-covered walls to bustling taxis, Oliviasade’s collection captures the come-down—the bittersweet feeling that follows when the party ends and the night settles into tranquility.

R13

I wrapped up my NYFW experience by attending a private event at R13, invited by my dear friend from Miami, Amun Bes, who works for the brand. There, I also met another multidisciplinary artist, Mark Delmont, known as @artlovetrap on Instagram, who is also from Miami.

Connecting with these two fellow Miamians was the perfect way to end the week and reminded me of my roots—where grit meets luxury, and art becomes a necessity when resources are scarce and problems need solving. This gathering served as a beautiful conclusion to a week that was both overwhelming and fulfilling, reinforcing the true reason we’re all here:

WE ARE ALL SEARCHING FOR BEAUTY BEYOND OURSELVES, BUT IN REALITY, WE ARE THE ULTIMATE CREATORS OF WHAT WE SEEK
